Who we are
British.co.uk is run by Stenning.net, Lytchett House, 13 Freeland Park, Wareham Road, Poole, Dorset, BH16 6FA. You can contact us about privacy through our contact page.
The short version
We don't collect or store any personal information ourselves. There are no accounts, forms, comments or mailing lists on this site, and we don't keep server logs that identify you. Search, ads and analytics are provided by Google, and Google stores the data they use, not us. We can only view anonymous visitor statistics in Google Analytics, and we can't use them to identify you.
Data protection law still counts the analytics cookie IDs Google stores for us as personal data, so we are the controller for that analytics data. That's why this page explains it and gives you a way to turn it off.
Your choices
Advertising
Visitors in the UK, the EEA and Switzerland are asked for consent before Google uses cookies for advertising. You can change your answer at any time.
The choices window isn't available right now. This can happen if an ad or content blocker is running, or if consent isn't requested in your region.
Analytics
Google Analytics is currently on for this browser.
Search
Search on this site is provided by Google Programmable Search Engine. When you type a search, your query, your IP address and information about your browser are sent directly to Google, which returns the results and any ads you see. Google handles this data under its own privacy policy. We don't see or store your searches.
Advertising
Search results may include ads served by Google. If you are in the UK, the EEA or Switzerland, Google only uses cookies or similar technology for advertising (including personalised ads) after you agree through the consent message on this site. If you don't agree, Google may still show non-personalised or limited ads. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Our legal basis for advertising cookies is your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a) and PECR regulation 6).
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used, so we can improve the site. We only use it for aggregate statistics. Google Signals is turned off, and our analytics is not linked to any advertising account or used to target ads.
- In the UK: these cookies are set under the statistical purposes exemption in PECR regulation 6 (as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025). You can turn them off at any time using the button above.
- In the EEA and Switzerland: analytics cookies are only set if you give consent through the consent message.
Our legal basis for analytics is our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Google may process this data outside the UK under appropriate safeguards.

How long data is kept
Detailed Google Analytics visit data is kept for 2 months. Data linked to your analytics cookie ID is kept for 14 months, and that period restarts each time you visit again. After that it is deleted automatically. Our reports only show totals. Google keeps search and advertising data under its own retention policies.
Your rights
We don't hold any information that identifies you, so in most cases we won't be able to find you in our records. You still have rights under UK data protection law, and this is how to use them:
- Analytics: to stop it, use the "Turn analytics off" button above. This also deletes the analytics cookies from your browser. To object to analytics or ask for your data to be deleted, get in touch through our contact page and include your analytics ID if you have it.
- Search and advertising: Google holds this data. You can view, download or delete it through your Google account or by contacting Google directly.
To raise a concern about how this site handles data, use our contact page. We will acknowledge your complaint and respond without undue delay.
If you're not happy with our response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this page
If we change how we use data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
